#2 What We Do. The Management of Technology (MOT) Program is an interdisciplinary certificate program sponsored by the College of Engineering and the Walter A. Haas School of Business.

What does this mean? MOT students have the benefit of taking courses in both schools that are generally unavailable to students not enrolled in the College of Engineering or the Haas School of Business.

To learn more about the MOT Program, please visit our About page.

#3 The MOT Certificate. How does a student qualify for an MOT Certificate? Once enrolled as a UC Berkeley graduate student, participating in the program is easy. Students must take 2 MOT Core Courses, 6 Units of MOT Related Courses, pass each class with a grade of B or higher, and then fill out the on-line MOT Certificate Application. No exceptions or substitutions are possible.

#4 Student Development. The MOT Program is not limited to providing just the MOT Certificate. MOT actively strides to integrate the diverse Berkeley student population by providing opportunities through fellowships and internships, student groups, and the MOT/Fisher IT Center Lecture Series.

How Do I...?

#33 ...get my course approved?
MOT Course Approval. To have a course considered for MOT approval, the instructor should provide a detailed description and the syllabus to the directors. Criteria include relevance to a cross-disciplinary group of students, a focus on management as well as technology, positive instructor evaluations, and assurance that the class will be taught at least once a year. Course will be offered for at least 2 units of credit, and must be significantly different from other courses offered through MOT. The directors must feel that a significant number of business as well as engineering and science students will take the class.

Haas Course Approval. Most cross-listed MOT classes are taught in the business school. Courses must be approved by the Haas Curriculum Committee and the MBA Program.  Paperwork for approval is generated by the sponsoring group. Lecturers not connected to any other Haas group, should contact Susan Reneau for assistance.

#34 ... is there a deadline for turning in my syllabus? Yes, for the Fall semester, it is due on August 2. For the Spring semester, January 2. All syllabi are due to Shizuka Kuroiwa either was Word Documents or PDFs.

#35 ...Grading?
If your class is cross-listed between 2 or more departments, there will be more than one class of students to grade, i.e., ENGIN 290 and MBA 290. These course numbers will be associated with your name in the egrading program.

Instructions for egrading can be found here http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Acad/egradeinst.html.
