One
of the main objectives in establishing the Management of Technology Program
at UC Berkeley
was to generate interest on the part of faculty in the College of Engineering
and Haas School of Business in joint research programs. It was anticipated
that through multidisciplinary research efforts, faculty would more rapidly
advance the state of knowledge around technology management issues, and would
do so in a more complete way than traditional functionally focused research
has allowed. Accordingly, there are several joint research programs that have
been funded and executed at UC Berkeley since the MOT Program started.
Berkeley Wireless Research Center
BWRC is a partnership of UC researchers, industry,
and government. Since 1999, the operation has been housed in an 11,000 sq.
ft. lab in downtown Berkeley, customized as a realistic prototype/test environment.
Researchers (approximately 60 graduate students and 11 faculty) focus on the
implementation of advanced radio architectures and algorithms in Radio SoC’s.
The Consortium on Green
Design and Manufacturing (CGDM)
CGDM was
formed in 1993 to encourage multi- disciplinary research and education
on environmental
management, design for environment and pollution prevention issues in critical
industries. Faculty and students come from UC Berkeley's College of Engineering,
School of Public Health, Energy and Resources Group and Haas School of Business.
Ongoing collaboration also exists with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's
Network for Energy, Environment, Efficiency and the Information Economy.
Strategic
research areas are:
Civil infrastructure
systems,
electronics industry,
service industries,
and biotechnology.
