
Technology has become pervasive in our daily lives as we have become reliant on technology for our business as well as personal needs. Technological Innovations have changed the way we do business at all levels. On one level, the Internet boom has leveled the playing field enabling companies with limited resources to compete with much larger competitors. On another level, leveraging technology to compete in our rapidly advancing technological world has become more crucial than ever for the success of a company.
The primary objective of this course is to develop critical analysis skills required to leverage technology in business. The course examines present-day technology issues. Upon completion of this course, the student will develop an understanding of the following: 1) The role that technology plays in today’s business environment and methods for leveraging technology to achieve overall business goals. 2) Technology innovation at industry leading companies. 3) Current technology innovation trends and how to effectively leverage it to gain business advantages.
Emphasis will be placed on real lessons learned using case studies and outside speakers who have led significant technology organizations. Companies such as Apple that have completely transformed their business model using technology will be discussed to understand how they successfully grew their business. Those that leverage their IT function to actively promote products and services will also be reviewed to examine how businesses can be showcased to prospective customers. Finally companies such as Cisco that have relied on M&A to fuel their growth will be analyzed to understand how they are able to quickly integrate their businesses and begin realizing the value of the transaction.
